History of Banc y Llain

Banc- y- Llain link to the White House in Washington.

It is well documented that five of the first six presidents of the United States of America were of Welsh ancestry. Probably the most famous of these were Mr John Adams ; the second president of the United States and very first occupant of the White House, and his son, Mr John Quincy Adams ; the sixth president who helped turn the tide against slavery. These powerful men were the grandson and great-grandson of a simple yeoman farmer"s son from Llanboidy in west Wales, called David Adams, who (before emigrating to America to seek his fortune) grew up as a tenant farmer on the drover"s farm that was part of the Banc-y-Llain estate. It is known that when the US President"s office was built in Washington, it was not white, and was not called the White House. Existing documentation indicates that the "White House" was given its present name during the presidency of John Adams, as a nickname, long before it...

The Vinyard

The vineyard was planted during spring of 2007 and nearly 2000 vines of Seyval, Phoenix, Rondo, Rheichenstiener, Huxelreber and Pinot Noir were planted.

The Rondo ripened first when the first crop was ready in 2014 and achieved a brix sugar level of over 15 and over 500 kilos of The Rondo were produced, then 3 weeks later the green grapes were harvested and over 2 tonnes produced in all.

We are advised by our client that around 3000 bottles are produced each year from the vineyards.

The first Vintage of Whitehouse Still White went on to win an international silver award.

Externally

The whole site is set in just under 7 acres which is split into various paddocks and of course the two separate areas of vineyards.
There is off street parking for the owners to the side of the house with large gravelled parking areas for the public from a second entrance providing ease of access to the Restaurant/Events Building.
There are 3 caravans onsite which of course could provide further income.
Our clients currently keeps some Shetland Ponys on some of the land which is well fenced. A stable block and large polytunnel are also found near the 3 caravans.

Directions

From Blaenwaun heading towards St Clears, turn right on the sharp left bend heading towards Whitland. Continue on this road for 3 miles, go through two sets of small cross roads and at the third set when you meet a main road (where you can turn right for Llanboidy) go straight ahead and Banc y Llain is half a mile further along on the left.
