Burrington Coombe is a wooded gorge on the northern side of the Mendip Hills which runs down to the Chew Valley. This is an historic area and there have been caves occupied by humans for over 10,000 years and more recently was the site of an Iron Age fort.
According to legend Augustus Montague Toplady was inspired to write the hymn Rock of Ages while sheltering under a rock in the Combe. Whether this is true or not there is no doubt that Burrington Coombe is a beautiful, inspiring and unspoilt area.
Close to The Barn is access to miles and miles of footpaths and bridleways.
