The major portion of a magnificent early 19th century villa providing well proportioned and balanced accommodation amid mature gardens with panoramic views to the English Channel

Upland is one of only a couple of original grand early 19th Century residences remaining on The Ridge today, others having been sadly replaced over the years. It is steeped in history and occupies an enviable elevated position, providing the most stunning views from all principal rooms. The property was divided into two residential dwellings in the late 20th century, with Upland being the major portion. Today, the property, under the same ownership since 1984, has been meticulously maintained.

Georgian balance and proportions are evident throughout, including high ceilings decorated with traditional ceiling roses, ornate cornicing, full height windows and a grand sweeping, cantilevered staircase to the first floor. Due to the orientation of the house and the generous sized windows, the internal space is bathed in sunlight throughout the day.

You are welcomed to the property via a spacious entrance lobby opening to a central hallway from which all of the ground floor accommodation can be accessed. Your eye is immediately drawn up to the fantastic ceiling heights, and then directly ahead into the drawing room where the bay window provides lovely garden views, with French doors onto a level terrace area. The ground floor is accompanied by a formal dining room, kitchen/breakfast room and cloakroom.

The bedrooms to the first floor are all of excellent size, with one of the 2 guest bedrooms enjoying a Jack-and-Jill entrance to an adjacent bathroom. There is a further family shower room on this floor. Stairs to the upper floor provide access to two spacious attic bedrooms where there are beams and timbers on display.

The established landscaped garden displays a riot of colour all year round due to its clever planting scheme. Stepping down from a paved terrace you arrive to an area of lawn, bordered by mature shrubs, trees and sections of fencing. To the rear of the garden is a former flourishing vegetable garden with a number of fruit and vegetable plants still in situ plus productive apple, pear and plum trees. The garden is a paradise for the green fingered and provides a fitting setting for this fabulous property.
