An interesting historical background reveals the Hall was built by the Abadam family who were once the owners of the ‘Middleton Hall Estate’ purchased from Sir William Paxton in 1824. Formerly known as Clearbrook Cottage - so noted on an engraved stone dated 1853 which is now set in a stone wall of the patio. King Charles II later provided an Abadam Crest proudly positioned above the front door denoting the hall lays claim to an important heritage. During the early 1870’s the house was occupied by Colonel Morse who enlarged the cottage creating the substantially larger property re-named ‘Clearbrook Mansion’.

Over the years the hall has been fully refurbished to include new plumbing, wiring, windows and doors. More recently the present owners who purchased the property in 2003, have adapted the interior to suit more contemporary life styles adding modern conveniences, yet retaining the classic Georgian styling and period features. The layout features a bespoke, well equipped kitchen, spacious utility room and comfortable family room, as well as luxury bath and shower rooms. A health benefitting ventilation and heat recovery system has been installed as well as underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, fuelled by an economical Eco-friendly Biomass boiler. Solar panels and PV tubes generate electricity contributing to requirements for the hall, the two cottages and the heated swimming pool.

The two listed stone cottages – Clearbrook Lodge and Meadow Cottage, were also completely rebuilt and refurbished in 1990 by the former owner. They sit quietly apart from the hall with their own vehicular access, parking areas and enclosed patio gardens. Both cottages are presently occupied by long term tenants.

Location

Llanarthne is a small village 8 miles east of Carmarthen, 6 miles west of Llandeilo, with an excellent food emporium, local pub and village hall. Porthyrhyd is a mile and half distant with a several inns and a local shop.
The county town of Carmarthen situated on the River Towy is 8 miles away. Here a wide range of facilities area available including grocery super stores, most high street names, a cinema complex, restaurants, bars and a multi storey car park. The town is also the home of the headquarters of Dyfed Powys Police, the Carmarthen Campus of The University of Wales and The West Wales General Hospital. There are numerous primary schools and two secondary schools providing education in Welsh and English. The town is also served by direct inter city trains from West Wales to London with the A48 giving easy access to the M4 with Cardiff an hour distant.

Llanarthne is proud to be home to the National Botanical Garden of Wales which was officially opened in July of 2000 having been established on an extensive area of the former Middleton Estate. The garden is both a visitor attraction and a centre for botanical research and conservation, featuring the world's largest single-span glasshouse measuring 110 m long by 60 m wide, with the site extending to 568 acres.
Nearby is Paxton’s Tower, a Neo-Gothic folly built by Sir William Paxton in c 1806-1809, erected in honour of Lord Nelson, sited on the top of a hill near Llanarthne. It was designed by the architect Samuel Pepys cockerel who also designed Middleton Hall which was destroyed by fire in 1931 and is now the site of the glass house at the Botanical Gardens.
