A fantastic Regency period Grade II Listed home set in approximately 22 acres of attractive grounds bordering Talley Lakes and complimented by four charming stone built holiday cottages overlooking the ruins of Talley Abbey.

Description

Y Plas is a fantastic Regency period home set in approximately 22 acres of attractive grounds bordering Talley Lakes and complimented by four charming stone built holiday cottages overlooking the ruins of Talley Abbey.

The substantial house is thought to have been built in the 1830's by Sir James Hamlyn Williams of Edwinsford. The property was later listed by CADW as 'a Fine Regency house in the centre of the village'.

The holiday cottages were formed in an old stone barn and offer a fantastic lifestyle business for any potential buyer. The cottages range in size from two bedrooms to four bedrooms, all beautifully presented and furnished ready for a continuation of their current use. The grounds which are mostly low lying pastureland border Talley Lakes and would be ideal for livestock or ponies or simply as amenity farmland.

Location

Talley is very picturesque and peaceful, nestling amidst beautiful hills south of the Cothi Valley, rich in wildlife. There are excellent local walks and cycling and the backdrop of the Abbey ruins and Talley Lake are just stunning. The village offers a local primary school and just 2 miles away the rural hamlet of Cwmdu has a community shop/post office and pub. More comprehensive amenities can be found in Llandeilo 7 miles, recently voted by the Sunday Times as one of the best places to live in Wales. The County town of Carmarthen is 18 miles away with good shopping, a main line railway station, and general hospital. Access to the M4 is 19 miles distant. There are numerous places to visit including Roman gold mines and historic castles, Brechfa Forest, the rugged Black Mountain, Towy Valley, Brecon Beacons and the coast (less than an hour’s drive).

.

Talley is a small beautiful and enchanting village in a wonderful rural setting surrounded by historic monuments. Most striking are the ruins of the monastery abbey dating back to 1185. The abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII and much of the stone was apparently used to build the present village and the chapel next to the abbey.

There are two lakes near the abbey ruins, which were used for fish farming to support the community of monks. Today they are a nature reserve managed by The Wildlife trust of South & West Wales. Between the two lakes the neck of land contains a mound which is a Norman motte castle.
