What we say at The Zoe Napier Group
It is evident from the outset that this property was constructed to the highest quality over 100 years ago, with an equally fascinating and classical interior, which includes beautiful French polished finishes and the original, refurbished intricate cornice plasterwork in the principal rooms. The natural light in the house is also reflective of the well-thought design.
What the owners say
We fell in love with the house the moment we saw it. Houses of such substance and quality are rarely available and we just knew we had to go for it. Having now had 20 immensely happy years at Fairstead Hall, bringing up a family, we have very much entered the enjoyment of retirement and travel, so the time has come to downsize.
History & Background
A Remarkable 7000 sq ft 8 Bedroom Elizabethan Country House of historic and inspirational architectural interest, set on 6.7 acres with leisure & lifestyle facilities. The house was constructed in 1889, to be occupied by local dignitaries of the church, which is how the famous architect John Loughborough Pearson (renowned for his designs for the likes of Truro Cathedral & the West Wing of Westminster Abbey) was commissioned to design this property. As a result, the property offers fascinating architecture both internally and externally with its notable 12 tall chimneys and the stunning Dutch Gables accompanied by arched porch ways to the front elevation. The inspirational interior of bright, light principal rooms, all with high ceilings and a house to be greeted by the magnificent showcase galleried stairs, with a 7-meter-tall window which floods light across the galleries.
The property was subsequently listed (grade II) due to its historic and famous architect of the 19th century Elizabethan Arts & Crafts movement. The building was constructed to exceedingly high specifications, further enhanced over the last 20 years to incorporate modern technology, including a zoned Lutron lighting system, (connected to the automatic gates/doors and cameras) built-in speakers, and luxurious finishes. The beautiful teak and English oak panelling, doors, and hard flooring have all undergone extensive French Polishing.
Setting & Location
The property is situated in an enviable setting for Brentwood, well screened and discretely nestled away from the road with an impressive automatic gated entrance and a long sweeping drive for formal presentation in front of the house, and with additional walled access leading to the extensive brick-built garaging (for four vehicles), good service and storage areas, as well as the stable block. The house is set amidst quintessential, mature grounds which have been carefully created over the past century to provide differing areas from quiet seating and woodland paths to the formal lawns and a sunken garden. There is also a rear meadow with good natural shelter, suitable for one or two horses/ponies alongside a modern tennis court, and on the upper southwest corner is the walled outdoor swimming pool which leads down to the summerhouse. The village of Great Warley is a highly sought country suburb of Brentwood, lying 2 miles southwest of the town and equally well placed for Upminster and major road access. Brentwood hosts a good choice of private schools and has all the required
amenities for a thriving and sought-after town.
