In March 2015 The Sunday Times published a supplement entitled “The Best Rural Properties in Britain”. Searching for an image to best illustrate the ideal country home, they chose a Getty Image of Quintatown. If you are seeking the perfect rural retreat Quintatown probably ticks every box. It is in an elevated setting on the side of an exquisitely beautiful valley, is surrounded by about eight acres of its own land and has immediate access onto Dartmoor. The house was originally built in the 1920s in the style of a classic four-square 19th century farmhouse. It has rendered and painted exterior walls under a slate roof with good-sized sash windows looking out on the unbroken, lush countryside that surrounds the house on every side. It has been the much-loved family home of its current owners for 16 years. Quintatown has undergone complete and sympathetic renovation to a high standard and today is a beautifully presented home with pale, neutral décor that amplifies the available natural light. The original house has also been sympathetically extended at the rear and this extension partly incorporates the open-plan living room that occupies about 40% of the ground floor and has a fireplace fitted with a wood-burning stove and fantastic views across to Meldon Hill. It comprises separate seating and dining areas that are separated by the kitchen, which is fully fitted with a range of units and integral electrical appliances. The ground floor also includes the central hallway with a timber floor and staircase to the first floor, a charming lounge with an open fireplace and a good-sized rear-facing study. Upstairs has a wonderful feeling of light and space with ample natural light. The galleried landing leads directly the principal bedroom with en suite bath and shower room, three further double bedrooms and the family bath and shower room.

Agents Note: As part of the planning application to renovate the property, the application included plans to substantially extend the existing house. Given that only part of the proposed works were completed, permission to complete the remaining works are perpetual (see Ref:0077/10 (Dartmoor national park planning applications)

Quintatown enjoys total peace and quiet, accompanied by birdsong. The house is approached via a sloping, 100 yard driveway off a country lane, with a gravel parking area beside the house. A farm road leads on to a group of attractive, stone-built outbuildings around a small yard. The group of outbuildings consist of a large granite barn with integral hayloft, an attached granite livestock barn with lean-to-store, a substantial open barn and three smaller tool/sheds/logs store. The garden extends out to the front and sides of the house and consists of a two-tier lawn with a gravelled terrace beside the house to form an outside dining area and a ha-ha fronting the lower lawn onto the front paddock. The surrounding pastureland is divided into three enclosures, known as Steep, Front and Far, which are bounded by stockproof fencing or hedging. The land is currently used for grazing livestock. Quintatown also enjoys immediate access onto Dartmoor, which stretches out from the hillside behind the outbuildings. In all the garden and land amount to about 8 acres (3.24 hectares).

Quintatown is situated in a beautiful valley with no near neighbours but is walking distance (0.75 miles) from the small but thriving market town of Chagford positioned on the north-east edge of Dartmoor. The town has an unusually wide range of shops for a town of its size and is also home to a range of local businesses including a health centre and dental and veterinary surgeries (see wider requirements the larger town of Okehampton and the cathedral
city of Exeter are both within a reasonable driving distance. Chagford is known for its arts community, celebrated through an annual series of film, literary, music and craft festivals plus other regular cultural events. The a
