Named after the five enormous Monterey pines that line the lower part of the drive, Monterey was built about eight years ago to an award winning, energy efficient design created by our client's late husband and inspired by the modernism and elegance of art deco architecture. He was not only a visionary designer but also a talented cabinet maker, who personally created all the bespoke joinery in the house from the sculptural sweeping staircase, the sliding wall separating the family room from the snug to the flowing curved kitchen units inspired by the sea. The villa has a lime rendered exterior with large double/triple glazed Velfac windows and largescale rooms on two floors with tall ceilings. It stands in an elevated setting with a wide and deep terrace on the southern side looking out to Portland Harbour against panoramic views of the Isle of Portland and Chesil Beach. On the first floor the windows are tall and wide with a large skylight above the first floor sitting room with another roof light above the stairwell, which combine to flood the interior with natural light. The south-facing family room has a large contemporary wood-burning stove and is separated from the adjacent snug by a sliding wall that can be opened to create a large, single space when required. The kitchen/dining room is an amazing light filled space with windows on three sides, a large dining space with a bespoke, fitted dresser, curved kitchen units under unusual blue Corian work surfaces and a selection of integral Miele electric appliances. Other special touches include the large marble floor tiles and stained oak timber floors used downstairs and the pale oak herringbone in the upstairs sitting room. The guest bedroom suite is on the ground floor and looks out onto the rear garden, whilst the principal bedroom and remaining bedrooms radiate off the sitting room on the first floor.

Monterey is approached via a crushed stone driveway that slopes gently upwards to a parking area beside the house. The drive continues round to the front of the villa to a good-sized, colonnaded portico. To the left of the entrance is a dining terrace with access through French Windows to the kitchen/dining room. To the right of the entrance is a Japanese inspired garden with fossilised rocks and ammonites. Extending back from the drive is a two-tiered lawn with a single garage on one side along with a walnut tree and several apple trees. Much of the garden lies on the southern side of the house, where the main terrace is fringed by a deep, raised bed planted with giant agapanthus. Below is a series of three tiered lawns with their leading edges planted with lavender, ground hugging pines, sea holly and large pieces of Portland stone. Connecting the front and rear gardens are steps leading to a side terrace. The terrace covers the foundations for a conservatory, for which planning permission has been granted along with a self-contained annexe to replace the garage. Plans are available for inspection when viewing. In all the garden amounts to about 1 acre (0.4 hectare).

Town centre 1.4 miles (Waterloo 2 hours 38 minutes), Weymouth Beach 1.5 miles, Portland Marina 2.6 miles, Dorchester 9 miles, Bournemouth Airport 39.2 miles, Exeter Airport 53 miles (London City Airport 1 hour). (Distances and time approximate).

Monterey is situated in an elevated position and set well back from Buxton Road, one of Weymouth's most prestigious residential roads and just over a mile from the town centre in Wyke Regis. It is set within the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty fronting onto the West Dorset Heritage Jurassic Coast. Chosen as a venue for the Olympic Games ten years ago, Weymouth attracted considerable investment as a result and the world class sailing facilities and marina are only about 2.5 miles away. There are several local stores within walking distance. The highly regarded Crab House Café is close by and located in the Grade II listed Fish Market is the Tripadviso
