Upper Clatford Fisheries is a private chalk stream fishery on the River Anton, a tributary of the river Test. The fishery has been within the same family ownership since 1970. The sale also includes shooting rights on the neighbouring meadow land.
Location
The fishery is located to the east of the village of Upper Clatford, approximately 2.5 miles from the A303. The fishery is accessed off Norman Court Lane via a gated entrance with a private car park for two vehicles.
River Anton
The source of the Anton rises north of Andover and flows south, through the villages of Upper Clatford and Goodworth Clatford before joining the Test below Chilbolton. A classic Hampshire chalk stream, the river flows through traditional water meadows and supports a rich ecosystem.
The Fishery
Extending to a total of approximately 375 meters (0.23 miles) of double bank fishing rights. The beat is characterised by shallow fast moving water with a weir approximately halfway along the beat with a small pool and holding area. Fishing is predominantly from the bank, with a designated wading section above the weir to the northern boundary. The extent of the fishing rights are edged blue on the sale plan.
Fish Stock
As a tributary of the Test, the Anton supports a wild population of brown trout together with a number of larger grayling. The wild stocks are supplemented by stockings of brown trout sourced locally. Stocking and catch records available upon request.
Fishing Hut
Located next to the timber footbridge on the western side of the beat is a small fishing hut of block and timber construction extending to approximately 4m x 3m.
Fishery Income
The Fishery is currently let through Fishing Breaks with the season running from the 1st May to 30th September for trout fishing and the grayling season running from 1st October to 31st December. Further details regarding the income available upon request.
Sporting rights
The fishery benefits from sporting rights including shooting rights on the reclaimed water meadows either side of the river. The two parcels extend to a total of 14 acres as edged red on the attached plan.
