Mays Retreat is a one-off property created by our clients between twenty and twenty-five years ago by the conversion of a detached stone farm building, understood to be listed grade II.
It has quality accommodation with lots of character features as well as modern-day comforts including underfloor heating, a cosy wood-burner in the living room and an AGA in the kitchen-diner. Many rooms feature exposed stonework and timbering, and the floors are of limestone and wood.
Outside, Mays Retreat is set back from the road and accessed over a shared track/drive which leads to the property's own gated drive and plenty of parking. There are two excellent outbuildings which potential for various uses (subject to consents) and a formal walled garden plus a large grassed area with trees and large pond. This area could be suitable for grazing animals, keeping poultry or growing vegetables, as well as providing a lovely outdoor amenity space. The whole site is approximately 1.81 acres as measured on Promap.
Dolbeare is a small hamlet positioned around one mile east of Ashburton, on the south side of the A38 off the Linhay slip road. It consists of a handful of properties and has a semi-rural feel. Ashburton town centre with its excellent range of shops, numerous cafes/restaurants, post office, primary school and health centre is a twenty minute walk and the South Dartmoor Academy just over five minutes.
Dolbeare lies just outside the boundary of Dartmoor National Park and the spectacular landscape of the open moor is readily accessible, whilst the South Devon coast with its sandy beaches and sheltered coves is around 40 minutes by car. The towns of Totnes and Newton Abbot are both around a 20 minute car journey and have mainline railway stations.
