SHENSTONE HOUSE

Shenstone Village in its earliest form was “Seneste” or “Scenestean” which means “beautiful stone” which is probably a reference to the red sandstone on which it is built. The land that Shenstone House is built on was purchased by Joh Neville of Whittington in 1797 - Situated in a commanding position within the heart of Shenstone, near Four Oaks and the Cathedral City of Lichfield.

Acquired by the current owners in 1979 (43 Years ago), the property provides an enigmatic insight to the breathtaking and impressive grounds of the handsome Georgian 1840s Grade II listed fine country residence.

The present owners have preserved the architectural integrity of the house, which offers **** sq ft of living space on three floors. Refurbished in **** this seven bedroom home is lined with deep sash windows that face the unobstructed views of the garden, pastures and woodlands within the grounds and beyond

The palatial hallway boasts a sense of character with warn wood engraved panelling throughout. The primary living rooms to the front are both exceptionally grand rooms with high ceilings and fire places. The property has been enlarged to include a snug with inglenook and dual windows. The large kitchen with its bespoke cabinetry, opens up into a charming family room, ideal for passing time whilst enjoying views over the garden

A sweeping stately staircase leading to a majestic landing encompasses five generous bedrooms all with fireplaces and high ceilings and dado rails adding the perfect amount of character. Completing this floor is a WC and a voluminous family bathroom, with inset shower, separate bathtub and plenty of storage.

The second floor is composed of a further, two excellent sized bedrooms and a bathroom.

OUTSIDE

A gated, gravel laid drive leads to a parking area and side of outbuildings and further on, to a large garage and barns with internal power. Directly to the front of the property is a private, immaculately maintained garden with an area of lawn and a heavily planted and well established border of plants, shrubbery and trees. The rustic charm of a loft Barn and garages contrasts sharply with the Georgian elegance of Shenstone House boasting beautiful vaulted ceilings.

SHENSTONE HOUSE COTTAGE

Entirely refurbished in *****, this two bedroom detached cottage sits apart from the principal house with its independent water supply, electricity and oil, its own parking and private entrance.

Displaying exposed beams and allowing access to the extent of the ground floor accommodation to include the dining room and kitchen which incorporates a range of wall and base units, is set to the side of the property with access to the gardens. Neighbouring the dining room, is the living room with arched windows and a cosy fireplace.

The first floor encompasses, two spacious bedroom with hatched windows, both having the benefit of ensuites and plenty of storage.

This would be ideal for – perfect for a teenage den/granny annex or even an Airbnb!!

DIRECTIONS

Take the A5127 (Lichfield Road) from Mere Green towards Shenstone. Carry on straight on Birmingham Road, it is 0.5 miles from Creative Plants on your right. The property is on the right-hand side identified by the agent's board.

Shenstone House offers access to road and train links in and out of Lichfield and Birmingham City Centres and beyond into London, Manchester and Liverpool. Local village shops include a highly regarded Primary School which feeds into King Edwards VI secondary school in Lichfield, along with a local library, butchers, convenience store and hairdressers. St Johns Church sits at the heart of the village and four village pubs provide a range of places to dine and enjoy an evening out.

HISTORY

The land that Shenstone House is built on was purchased by John Neville of Whittington in 1797, one part of it from Thomas Noel-Hill, Lord Brewick and the other part from a Thomas Cook. At the time John bought it included the property knows as “Shenstone Lodge”, which was situated on the west side of the turnpike road from Lichfield to Birmingham. John wasn't the first Nevill to be in Shenstone, the Nevill name has featured in Shenstone's history for a very long time, in fact it is reported that Shenstone was probably an outlying portion of the domains belonging to “The King-Maker” Richard Nevill, Earl of Warwick.
