History of Ubarrow
This charming small farm is also accompanied with a vibrant history. The name of the property has varied between the spelling Yewbarrow and Ubarrow over the years but is currently known as Ubarrow Hall. Its 15th century Pele Tower is understood to be one of the oldest buildings in the Longsleddale Valley. During King Henry III reign it is understood that a rent of 1 shilling was paid to Queen Katherine Parr in relation to the property. It is also noted as ‘The most considerable house in the Dale’ by Nicholas & Burn in their history of the county.

The tower, (32ft x 22ft) is situated on the southwest end of the 17th century farmhouse and was formerly two storeys in height. The vaulted basement was previously used as a dairy with a narrow passage having been broken through the six-foot wall from the back Kitchen., this now offers and unique and expansive cellar

Directions
From Kendal follow the A6 Shap Road (north) for approximately four miles and then turn left at the Longsleddale/Garnett Bridge signpost. Continue through the hamlet of Garnett Bridge and follow the valley road for approximately two and a half miles until you reach a sign for Ubarrow Hall on the right. Turn right up the drive where you will reach the property.
