DESCRIPTION
Culderry House dating from the late eighteenth century, was originally built to house the factor of the Galloway Estate, and is situated directly across the Bay from Galloway House, the main estate residence. In later years the property was converted in to a small country house hotel, and most recently has been a much loved family home.
Gates open to a private driveway leading to this stunning country house and the road continues to a parking area and well maintained garden. A number of period features have been retained, ensuring the character of the property is maintained, picture rails remain in many of the rooms complementing the high ceilings, and there are feature alcoves in three of the reception rooms.
The dual aspect sitting room has an open fire, garden views, the lounge and drawing room also overlook the garden and they both have wood burning stoves for additional warmth. External stone steps on the east side of the sitting room lead down to a cellar, the size of the cellar is mirrored by the sitting room above.
The galley Kitchen provides both an Aga and gas cooker, extends to a further utility and store room, a corridor also leads directly to the Dining Hall. The Dining Hall, still set out for guests, has stunning views across the Bay, this room could be reconfigured to create a large open plan family room. The main staircase leads to the first floor, where there are six Bedrooms, five of which are en-suite. The Master Bedroom has a large bay window with garden views, Bedroom 2 and 3 also have garden views, the remaining Bedrooms have views over open countryside and Garlieston Bay. The first floor Bathroom has Jack and Jill access to Bedroom 4.
A lift is still in operation within the property, and two sets of fire doors open to a separate staircase leading to a fire exit. Strict fire regulations had to be adhered to when the property was functioning as a hotel.
Culderry House sits under a slate roof and has oil fired central heating powered by a Worcester Dansemor 35/50 boiler.
A range of stone outbuildings sits to the west of the property, the Store has a small wood burning stove and could be used as a Workshop or updated to form a Studio, and next door there is a former stable, the original stalls are still in situ. Double doors open to a garage adjacent to a log store, coal store and further storage room and two wooden sheds, and an open fronted wooden shed are used for storage.
A paddock lies to the east of the property between Culderry House and Garlieston Bay, which could be used for equestrian purposes or to graze a small number of livestock.
