Monks Ridge is an exquisite five bedroom detached unlisted barn conversion, with accommodation extending to around 3600 sq ft. The property sits on grounds of around 0.76 acres with two double garages and surrounded by countryside and far reaching views over the estuary. The property offers versatile living space as well as the scope to provide annexe accommodation.
We had been living in Epping Forest for a number of years when, due to a period of ill health, we decided we should move closer to our family who were living in the Colchester area. Our previous house sold quicker than expected and we were under pressure to find a new home, so Monks Ridge was only the second property we viewed and fate was on our side. For my husband the four garages, for his classic cars, and the lake for his coy carp, sealed the deal; and for me it was the welcoming atmosphere and sense of home as soon as we walked inside.
The beautiful landscape also played a large part in our final decision. With only one neighbour to the side, the rest of the property is surrounded by rolling countryside with striking views across the sloping fields down to the estuary. On a clear day you can see for miles and watch the large ships as they slowly come into the harbour at Harwich. Everyone who visits always comments on the incredible outlook we have; it has to be seen to be truly appreciated.
The large secluded garden is a joy and, because of our rural and peaceful location, we have an abundance of wildlife who call our garden home. I love to sit in the conservatory and watch the comings and goings of our tame pheasants, ducks, moorhens and the occasional muntjac as they wander in and out. We've spent many long summers entertaining friends and family in the garden, in particular the grandchildren who love the open space and the proximity of the beach at Frinton, where we also have a beach hut.
We're also placed in a great location with everything on our doorstep, if we need it. We have Frinton for its lovely beach and high street full of little independent shops; large supermarkets are only a short drive away for the weekly shop, and anything last minute can be found at the village shop and post office just round the corner; and the train station with links to London is only five minutes drive away.
I will be honest, when we do finally leave, I will miss the house dreadfully and will no doubt have a little cry! We have loved this house and we're moving out of necessity, rather than choice. At our time of life, we need a smaller home and a slower pace of life but I will miss my glorious kitchen and the overall feeling of space in the house; we have a room for all the family and for every occasion. My husband will miss the peace and the views most of all, but this house needs a family again, to use it and love it as much as we have.
