St Joseph's Hall is a typical example of late Arts & Crafts architecture and demonstrates the aspiration to put craftsmanship on show, display the quality of functional design and materials, and showcase the abilities of those involved in the construction. The solidity of its structure with flint covered outside walls almost 2 feet thick, a Horsham stone roof, and oak mullioned windows have ably fulfilled their purpose and give intrinsic beauty to the building. Designed and built between 1908 and 1910, in the Vernacular Revival style of E.S. Prior, it has a rich history of occupants, and for 40 years was the home of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Arundel and Brighton from 1965 until its sale to the current owners.
