History and Heritage

The property is a Grade II listed stone house with a part tiled and part slate roof, built in the 1600s – 1700s. Character features include original single pane leaded windows throughout, latch and brace doors, half glazed doors and original fireplaces. There are cast iron radiators throughout.

The house is believed to have been thatched until the late 1800s and is thought to have originally been a farmhouse on the Beachborough Estate. The house is L shaped and was extended in 1801 adding a rear wing to the north end. The current vendors have owned the property since 1994. They have undertaken sympathetic updates including replumbing and rewiring, and new flooring to some rooms. In 2012 they added a conservatory and re-roofed one end of the property including adding Velux windows.

Westbury

Westbury is a village in northern Buckinghamshire, 2.5 miles from the market town of Brackley and 5 miles west of Buckingham. Both offering a range of shopping and leisure facilities, a library, and dental and GP surgeries. The village boasts a small shop full of local products; fruit and vegetables and everyday essentials. There is a village hall which hosts a number of clubs and activities, and there is also a Westbury Cricket Club and a Westbury Village Club. Local schools include Beachborough School, a private prep school which is in the village itself, along with being in the catchment area for the Royal Latin (grammar) school. Westbury can trace its roots back to Saxon times when an entrenched camp was built on a mound north east of the church in 867 A.D. The history of the village is depicted in specially-commissioned woodcarvings which now form an historic village trail throughout Westbury.
