Poppythorn Cottage & Cobblestones sit in a picturesque position in the heart of the North Pennines, just a couple of miles from Alston at the former site of a 13th Century convent and surrounded by glorious Cumbrian countryside.

The town of Alston lies in the far corner of north east Cumbria, close to the Northumbrian border and standing around 1,000ft above sea level. It is a quaint town with cobbled high street, unusual shops and art gallery all surrounded by miles of unspoiled countryside, perfect for walking without the crowds of the nearby Lake District.

Locally, there is a good choice of amenities with supermarket, restaurants, public houses and selection of shops. The town provides both primary and secondary schooling and a range of professional services. Alston Moor has a golf club and other popular local sports include fishing and shooting. For more comprehensive facilities, Carlisle, Penrith and Hexham are extremely accessible and provide excellent shopping, entertainment and leisure facilities.
