A fine house of character combined with contemporary luxury, with private gated access to the East Course.

Description

High Trees is an original ‘Tarrant’ house, built around 1935 in one of the quietest areas on Wentworth, betwixt the 12th hole of the East course and the Edinburgh course. Set within mature landscaped grounds, the property offers complete seclusion and privacy, with no direct neighbours and in woodland surroundings.

With careful consideration and great attention to detail, High Trees has been improved over recent years and combines the warmth and character of the traditional with the contemporary features one might expect in a house of this quality. The accommodation flows easily and there is a quiet harmony as the colours and textures of wall coverings blend from room to room. This is a house suited to both formal entertaining and relaxed family living, with a welcoming ambience and versatile spaces.

There is much of note: the 19’ reception hall with its original oak flooring and all principal rooms leading off; the charming library, ideal for relaxation; the drawing room with its original beam and brick feature fireplace with log stores on either side and French doors to the delightful loggia, perfect for entertaining or simply listening to birdsong.

The kitchen has been thoughtfully designed to cater for the most enthusiastic cook and is fitted with a comprehensive range of Poggenpohl units topped with granite surfaces, integral appliances and a combination LaCanche range. There is a useful pantry and a central island separating the ‘work’ space from the breakfast area with its bespoke banquette seating. Adjoining the kitchen, for more formal entertaining, the dining room features the original fireplace and walls lined in the same quality fabric as the soft furnishings.

Set apart from the rest of the ground floor is the office, a wonderful well proportioned space with views to front and rear and French doors offering direct access to the terrace. Again, demonstrating great attention to detail, the loft area has been converted to provide bespoke storage with moveable oak shelving and filing units, accessed via sliding glazed doors in the ceiling.

On the first floor are five well-appointed bedrooms, all with the original panelled fitted wardrobes. The master bedroom enjoys a dual aspect with superb views over the gardens towards the East course, and boasts a particularly fine and spacious en suite bathroom, with stone tiles, recessed shelving and Vola fittings.

All bathrooms and cloakrooms in High Trees have been individually designed with great consideration and high quality fittings.

Location

Wentworth Estate

The Wentworth Estate is a leafy oasis extending to about 1,750 acres within Virginia Water. Set amidst the tree lined lanes, there are three internationally renowned championship golf courses, and the exclusive Wentworth Club, home to the PGA Championship, with a spa, excellent sporting facilities and fine dining.

The estate was originally based around ‘Wentworths’ (now the Club house), the family home of the brother-in-law of the Duke of Wellington. In the 1850's Ramon Cabrera, an exiled Spanish count, acquired the property and later, his English wife, the Countess de Morella, bought most of the adjacent lands to form the present Wentworth Estate.

In 1923, W G Tarrant, a visionary developer who had already created similar estates including St. George’s Hill in Weybridge, acquired the development rights. He envisaged a semi-rural idyll of substantial mansion houses set in beautiful mature gardens surrounding a golf course. His vision has attracted much acclaim and today, Wentworth is considered one of the UK’s premier addresses.

Despite its deceptive rural setting, Wentworth is perfectly positioned for easy access to London and the motorway network via the M25 (J11/13) which links with the M3 (J3) and the M4 for journeys to Heathrow Airport and central London.
