An established, purpose built coarse and specimen carp fishery in a very accessible location close to Liverpool extending to approximately 10.8 acres (4.3 ha).

Location

The property is located at Thornton, approximately 8 miles north west of Liverpool. The M57/M58 Junction is approximately 2 miles away.

The Fishery

Brooms Cross Fishery has been developed from former agricultural land by the current owners into a very successful coarse and specimen fishery.

Owl Tree Pond

Extending to 0.8 acres (0.3 ha) with 18 pegs and a maximum depth of 6ft.

A canal style water stocked with carp up to 10lbs, roach 1lb, bream 1lb, tench 2.5lbs, perch 3lbs, together with chub and gudgeon. Managed as a day ticket water.

The owners are currently remodelling the lake so that the western end can join up with Lower Alt Lake to provide more specimen carp fishing.

Lower Alt Lake

Extending to 1.4 acres (0.5 ha) with 5 pegs and a maximum depth of 7ft.

A custom designed and built carp lake featuring reeds, rushes, overhanging trees, bays, shelves, slopes, bars, sunken islands, deep holes, troughs, weed and silt beds. The pegs have been positioned on one bank to provide privacy. Stocked with carp between 10 and 29lbs

With around 25-30 ¤ 20lbs + fish, 9 of which are between 25 and 29lbs and 47 x wels catfish between 10 and 51lbs.

Upper Alt Lake

Extending to approximately 3 acres (1.2 ha) with 12 pegs and a maximum depth of 5ft. A designed and built specimen carp lake featuring gravel patches, silt patches, sand patches, rushes, reeds, lily beds, overhanging trees, deep holes, bars, plateaus and channels. There are 12 pegs located on the central island, meaning that no-one fishes on the opposite bank.

Stocked with 70 carp.

More than half of the stock are in excess of 20lbs with around 30 fish in excess of 25lbs including a growing number of 30-35lbs carp, 13 in total at present. Perch to 4lbs.

The fishery has the benefit of a CCTV system and 24 hour on site bailiffs providing a secure fishing experience.

Car Parking

The fishery has the benefit of a hard surface car park adjacent to the facility buildings.

Buildings

Adjacent to the car park and Owl Tree Lake a single storey facilities building currently under construction, together with 4 portable cabins and a shipping container.

The Business

The fishery is managed on a day ticket basis, however all anglers fishing Lower and Upper Alt Lakes have to be part of the Fishery Registration Scheme.

The business turned over for the year ending 2018 £49,543. Due to the business being relatively young there is further potential for it to be developed both from ticket sales and on site bait and tackle sales.

Prices

Broom Cross Fishery has a flexible pricing structure to reflect the time of year and the time booked on site. Prices range from £6 for a day ticket on Owl Tree Lake to £30 for 24 hours on Upper Alt Lake.

Services

The fishery has the benefit of mains electricity.

Planning

Planning permission was granted on the 16th December 2010 reference number S/2010/1352: layout of a recreational fishing facility comprising six fishing ponds, a single storey administration building, storage sheds, layout of car parking spaces and landscaping.
