Originally built in 1884, 37 Cabbage Lane is unlisted, semi-detached and built of local stone with brick and cut stone detailing under a two-tone clay tile roof. The cottage is south facing and is set back off a country lane and looks out onto the surrounding countryside. The cottage has been sympathetically extended some years ago and updated throughout with a surprisingly spacious and contemporary interior that incorporates some lovely touches. These include local Blue Lias stone work surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom, clever use of oak and elm and two beautiful fireplaces carved from Doulting limestone quarried in the Mendips and fitted with American-made Vermont Castings wood-burning stoves.

The ground floor has a cosy sitting room with a Victorian tiled floor and a door opening to a flight of steps down to the terrace and lean-to log store. Adjacent is the large, L-shaped kitchen and living room, which has a polished concrete floor and ample room for separate dining and seating areas. The latter is suffused with natural light pouring through two extended rooflights and French windows to the garden. The kitchen is fitted with a range of contemporary units including a central island, bespoke larder cupboard, electric hob and 2-oven AGA. At the rear behind the kitchen are the laundry room and cloakroom.

The first-floor landing incorporates a good-sized home office and leads to the principal bedroom, which has a vaulted ceiling and shares the roof lights above the seating area below, a further double bedroom and bathroom with a separate shower.

The garden extends out in front of the cottage and to one side and amounts to about 0.75 acre (0.3 hectare), incorporating a gravelled parking area about 30 yards further down the lane from the cottage. The garden is grassed and slopes gently down to a stream running along its norther boundary that acts like a magnet for wildlife during the Spring and Summer. At one end of the garden behind a Viking-style timber fence and young yew hedge is a self-contained, timber-clad annexe comprising a living room with kitchenette and separate shower room. Adjacent is an ISO storage container clad with painted corrugated iron.

The village has a pub (walking distance) and primary school and nearby Templecombe has a doctor's surgery and a railway station. The nearby towns of Bruton and Sherborne cater for most day-to-day shopping and business needs including dental and veterinary surgeries and a Waitrose supermarket in Sherborne, Bruton is home to Hauser & Wirth Somerset.
