A wonderful detached Grade II listed character cottage, with a fine rural outlook and lovely mature gardens.

Description

This Grade II listed character cottage dates back to around the 16th century and has been well-planned and arranged by the current owner following general works and an extension undertaken back in the 1970s.

The setting is superb, with the attractive elevations nicely set against the backdrop of the delightful, structured garden.

In particular, the cottage offers a good balance between the living and bedroom space, with three good-sized reception rooms as well as a good ratio of bedrooms to bathrooms.

The accommodation has been well maintained and, whilst there could be some up-dating now, there is generally a very good overall impression throughout.

Features include a well proportioned fitted kitchen/breakfast room, with built-in seating to the bay window, with an outlook to the front and a two-oven Aga at the opposite end.

The sitting room is delightful, with an open fire place and cupboards and shelving to one side, an oak beamed ceiling, and also with a bay window, again with built-in seating.

The family room is a later addition and benefits from a double aspect to the garden, opening to the rear terrace and featuring built in book-shelving and cupboards.

Outside, the gardens are beautifully laid out and planted, with a variety of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees and really does complement the house and setting, offering a lovely, semi-rural aspect with distant views.

A five-bar gate opens to the drive on one side with parking, leading up to the detached double garage. The front garden is lawned and well planted, with two mature trees as the central focus.

Immediately to the rear, there is a generous Yorkstone entertaining terrace, with a planted rockery and pond, leading out to the garden, where there is a croquet lawn to the rear and a tennis lawn to the side, with a small orchard planted between.

In addition, there is a sizeable, part-walled vegetable garden with a brick built shed and a greenhouse, complete with composting area and also, a largely walled, enclosed swimming pool, with generous terrace surround and a pool house, with a shed housing the pool plant equipment behind. Other features include a circle of cobbles, with feature box hedging and a natural, well kept, area of woodland, with a large woodshed.
