ABOUT THE AREA Hintlesham
Hintlesham is a small village in Suffolk, England, situated roughly halfway between Ipswich and Hadleigh. It is in the Belstead Brook electoral division of Suffolk County Council. The village is notable for Hintlesham Hall, a 16th-century Grade I listed country house, now operated as a hotel.
Hintlesham Hall
Dating back to the 1400s, Hintlesham Hall is an impressive building with traditional decor, which is steeped in history. Hintlesham Hall is used today as a plush four red star hotel serving award-winning cuisine. Extremely popular for weddings - large and small, and an excellent venue for corporate hire, the Hall is an impressive and versatile grade l listed building nestled in the tranquil Suffolk countryside. A little spot of luxury in beautiful surroundings, only an hour away from Stansted airport and a short drive from Ipswich town centre, the Hall offers a fine dining experience, one-of-a-kind stately bedrooms, stunning views and our own small, but perfectly formed, spa for a little more added luxury.
St Nicolas Church
The parish church of St Nicolas is a typical Decorated church, and therefore not typical for Suffolk. It has many memorials to the Tymperley family and the squint in the north wall shows that the vestry was once a chapel, possibly a chantry to the family, converted to secular use in the 1540s. The stairway to the roodloft in the south wall is one of the best preserved in the county. For about 350 years Hintlesham has been a joint parish with Chattisham whose church, St Margaret's, stands about a mile away, separated by a valley of meadows and woods.
Hadleigh
The town's backbone is the High Street, with just the right eclectic mix of shops, services, restaurants, cafés and pubs - known for their individuality, quality and care, with both a contemporary and traditional feel. Hadleigh nestles in breathtaking countryside with spectacular scenes that inspired 18th-century painters, Constable and Gainsborough. Visitors admire the many historic buildings but the stories of who lived and worked in them complete the picture. Close to the town, with its wide range of independent businesses, are many country walks, such as the Riverside and Railway walk.
