Ty Capel is full of character and charm and sits in around 0.5 acres of its own grounds and being further surrounded by arable farm land you really get a sense of being in your own slice of Welsh rural heaven. A rural retreat in the middle of nowhere, that is actually only a few minutes from vibrant and bustling towns like Cowbridge as well as a short drive from fabulous local beaches. The M4 is only a short drive away and Cardiff International Airport is only 15 minutes down the road.
Throughout the property there are clues as to its age and history, but it still manages to have a modern comfortable homely feel about it. The versatile accommodation comprises of three double bedrooms on the first floor with the principle bedroom benefiting from a lovely en-suite shower room, while the other two bedrooms share a delightful house bathroom. Downstairs there are two reception rooms and a large study, which has an adjacent shower room meaning it could easily be used as a fourth bedroom, while the second reception could even possibly be a fifth bedroom if needed, or this entire area could be used as an annex. There is also a dining room, lovely fitted kitchen and utility. Outside there are lovely gardens on three sides of the house, to the South is the largest of the gardens which is laid to lawn with well established fruit trees and shrubs, the far end of the garden has a woodland feel and is currently home to a flock of chickens, to the East is a lovely seating area – perfect for entertaining. To the North is a fab detached stone garage and barn, currently being used to provide a home for Goats, who have the run of the smaller lawn garden beyond.
"Seller Insight"
"We are near to all the amenities of Cowbridge and Llantwit Major," say the owners, "and only 15 minutes from Cardiff airport (without being in the flight path). Nearby Atlantic College has lots of things going on, including outdoor cinema in the summer and classical concerts all year round. The local angling club's fishing pond at the end of our road is perfect for beginners, while Ogmore is 20 minutes away with a lovely beach and a riding school for great family days out."
Outside, the gardens serve as an extension of the indoor living accommodation. "The garden is just over half an acre that is split into different areas," say the owners, "with goats up one end, woods where I keep chickens at the other, and a courtyard and gardens in between. The courtyard catches the sun all day, so is ideal for al fresco dining and entertaining. Whether outdoors or in, the complete sense of space, privacy, and peace and quiet is astounding."
"Our first impressions of the house itself were that it had masses of potential, both inside and out," the owners continue. "So, taking care to retain the sense of age and beauty which make this house so special, we set about creating a home which perfectly blends old and new. We now have all the benefits of contemporary living, with new bathrooms and a large modern kitchen, juxtaposed with period features such as an original fireplace we exposed during renovations. Our favourite room is the main living room: it is so light and airy in the daytime, but when the fire is lit and the fairy lights are on in the evening, it is wonderfully cosy and inviting."
It was the superb location that first attracted the current owners to Ty Capel. "We loved that the property was completely rural but still within easy reach of Cowbridge and Llantwit Major," they say. "There are fantastic vistas from every angle, the views across the sea to north Devon being particularly stunning."
