Set in the heart of the exceptionally scenic Monmouthshire countryside, Trelleck Grange is in an area registered as one of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This property is an imposing period house with a wealth of character containing large elegant rooms. It offers a rare opportunity of purchasing an impressive home in a truly unique setting

Description

The sale offers a rare opportunity to purchase a substantial 'gentleman's' country residence. The imposing house has white rendered and stone elevations under a red clay tiled roof. It was probably built in the late 19th century or very early 20th century with a wealth of character features including an impressive entrance hall with a grand wooden staircase. The reception rooms, with picture rails and dados, contain stone fireplaces, bay windows with shutters and wooden floors. The ceilings are high and create a good natural light ambience.

History

Formerly owned by the Duke of Beaufort who, in 1875, sold it to the landowner and politician Charles Henry Crompton Roberts the property is steeped in history and enjoys a prominent position in the hamlet. Trelleck Grange is an ancient parish based around the church which was later used by the monks of Tintern Abbey who used the surrounding farmland to grow food.

Situation

Approached via the B4293 road between Devauden and Llanishen by turning off at Cobbler's Plain into the parish road to Trelleck Grange. Trelleck Grange is a small ancient hamlet of scattered houses and farms. There is a small church, local pub – The Fountain – and a few residences and converted barns, all creating a private tranquil area, yet only 10 minutes or so to the M48 and Severn Bridge. Daily commuting to Bristol, Cardiff via M4 or London by rail from Bristol Parkway are all feasible.
