A historic and substantial converted mill now in need of updating.

Description

It is believed there has been a mill on the site since the time of the Domesday Book. The current buildings are thought to date from the 16th or 17th century and were originally known as Barton Mill and Barton Mill Cottage but in recent years have simply been The Mill House. The properties were renovated in the 1980’s when floors were added to the Mill and they were linked by a single story building in the east corner. Situated in Bartons Conservation Area in the picturesque Dorn Valley through which the Dorn river flows and once powered the mill. The property provides over 4,200 sq ft of flexible accommodation arranged over various floors and now requires extensive updating and refurbishment.

The Mill House and surrounding properties were flooded in the winter of 2019/20 due to the lack of capacity in the river channel at Mill Lane. The lack of capacity was due to several decades of sediment build up that has now been cleared. A hydraulic report for The Mill House has been prepared and is available to interested parties.

Outside
The property has vehicular access off Mill Lane from both sides of the ford and there is ample space for car parking. The extensive and attractive gardens lie to the west of the Mill House and the River Dorn runs through part of the garden and then along the northern boundary.

Location

Middle Barton is the largest of the three Bartons, which also include the hamlets of Westcott Barton and Steeple Barton, set in the midst of the undulating North Oxfordshire countryside. Within the village are a primary school, parish church, two public houses and village shop.

Communications are good with Junction 10 of the M40 some 8 miles away and mainline stations at Lower Heyford, Charlbury, Oxford and Bicester.

For those looking to enjoy the surrounding there are lovely walks along the River Dorn and nearby footpaths.
