Description

The Byre is one of three converted barns that originally formed part of the neighbouring Bozomzeal Manor, a stunning listed manor house, which during the early 1400s was home to Sir John Bozom, Sheriff of Devon and MP for Dartmouth. The Byre is a superb conversion, with large windows, plenty of natural light and a magnificent vaulted ceiling in the dining hall. Thy Byre is attached to the neighbouring Linhay, another beautiful conversion and being in a slightly elevated position The Byre affords lovely views across the surrounding countryside and down to the sea, where it meets the Dart Estuary. Location

The Byre is situated about a mile from Dittisham which is one of the most attractive, unspoilt and sought after villages in Devon. Sitting on the west bank of the River Dart, the village has a thriving community with a church, two pubs, with one including the post office/general store and a waterside bistro. There is also the Dittisham Sailing Club and a large recreational field known as The Ham, situated on the banks of the River Dart. From the public jetty, the ferry links Dittisham to Dartmouth and Greenway, the former home of Agatha Christie and now owned by the National Trust.

From The Byre, there is a local footpath into the village. The nearby riverside town of Dartmouth, home to the Britannia Royal Naval College, provides a comprehensive range of facilities including independent shops, pubs, restaurants, cinema and Sports Centre with indoor pool. Totnes, about 12 miles distant, offers a rail link to London in under 3 hours and the A38 Devon Expressway links the M5 at Exeter.

Directions

From Dartmouth take the A3122 towards Totnes for approximately 4 miles. At the Sportsman’s Arms turn right signposted to Dittisham. As the hill descends into Dittisham, turn right at Bozomzeal Cross and the driveway for The Byre will be found further along on the left.
