The town also has three excellent supermarkets, a medical centre and a good range of schools - the grammar school at Churston is just over the water by ferry.
The river is deep for keel boats. Darthaven Marina is in Kingswear, next to the Royal Dart Yacht Club which offers racing and a lively social scene, both easily accessible on the lower ferry.
