A gloriously situated, elegant Grade II listed country house enjoying superb far reaching views over The Weald.

Description

The history of Ulcombe Place can be traced back to before the Doomsday Book and it is clear that a property has stood on the site of the existing Ulcombe Place from around the year 900. The property was owned by the Archbishop of Canterbury for many years, who founded during the 13th century a monastic college, in whose possession it remained until the 15th century, when it came into the ownership of the St. Leger family.

Ulcombe Place passed through generations of the St. Legers until 1642, when the property passed by descent to Henry Clarke of Rochester, an MP for that area. A succession of the Clarke family continued to live in the property until the latter part of the 18th century, when it passed by marriage to the Earls of Ormonde.

Ulcombe Place is an elegant Grade II listed country house of beautiful proportions, the principal portion of which has been built using traditional Kentish ragstone with a fine veranda, a fringe on Doric columns and a lead and glass roof running the full length of the main building. Inside, the property exhibits much of the 18th century character and charm with wonderfully proportioned and stylishly presented rooms, ornate cornicing, marble fireplaces and sweeping staircase.
