History with distinction.

Description

Avon Carrow was built by Cecil Boyle in the late 19th century, as a Hunting Lodge. The Profumo family lived at Avon Carrow between 1925 and the late 1960’s. The property was converted in 1983 to its present form to include a number of elegant mews homes. The property is of Hornton ironstone construction under a stone slate roof with detailed carved stonework, moulded gable parapets and mullion windows.

Central to the imposing façade, The Tower (2 Avon Carrow), retains many period features and offers contemporary living within this historic Grade II Listed building.

On entering the property through the fabulous oak doorway, the history and elegance of the building is evident. From oak panelled walls, sweeping balustrades, curved doors, original stained glass windows, arrowslit windows, exposed timbers, wooden flooring, stone spiral staircase and nooks and cranny’s galore, this home offers character throughout.

The property has recently undergone sympathetic modernisation with new kitchen, bathrooms with Fired Earth fittings, carpets, boiler and cast iron radiators, elegant light switches and brass door furniture.

The panelled drawing room with views over well maintained grounds, and Edgehill in the distance, has multi fuel stove within an ornate stone fireplace. The balcony (used in previous days for the selection of the horses passing through the arch) still remains with access up a stone staircase to the corner of the room, currently serving as a wine store. A further door offers access to the patio and the grounds beyond.

The first floor kitchen comprises bespoke Tom Howley units with marble work surfaces, integrated oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave and mezzanine dining room, approached via a sweeping staircase from the drawing room.

The second floor principal bedroom has amazing views over the rolling Warwickshire countryside. On the same floor, the guest bedroom, with tongue and groove ceiling and stained glass windows overlooking the central courtyard.

Fourth floor bedrooms, approached via a stone spiral staircase, have the benefit of a bathroom and are both well proportioned rooms. From the fourth floor landing the staircase continues to the roof terrace with fabulous views over the historic battleground of Edgehill.

Communal gardens, of about 7 acres with views over surrounding countryside, include an attractive wide Chestnut avenue, tennis court with pavilion and extensive lawns used for croquet and bowls. Single garage, along with ample communal gravelled parking.
