A fine Arts and Crafts villa in splendid grounds.

Description

Drum Millig is a splendid B Listed Arts and Crafts villa and a fine example of the work of Alexander Nisbet Paterson. In his early years, A N Paterson was an assistant to J J Burnet, before establishing his own practice in Glasgow in 1891. A Helensburgh resident himself, he created Drum Millig (meaning 'house on the ridge') in 1909.

The property has been lovingly upgraded by the present owners, retaining many fine original features but adding their own touch for modern family living. To this end they have incorporated the former garage outbuilding into the house to create a wonderful family kitchen with dining and sitting areas and sliding doors to the paved patio and garden.

The entrance porch leads to the main reception hallway which is L shaped and has wood panelling and an impressive staircase. The panelling incorporates a gas flame effect fire. Off the reception hallway are a cloakroom, sitting room, drawing room, dining room, garden room and games room with stairs leading down to the family kitchen.

The sitting room is a cosy space with bookshelves, inset fire surround and storage cupboards. There are folding doors which open to the drawing room. This is a wonderfully elegant room featuring an arched ceiling, bay window, timber floor and a marble fire surround with an Adam style mantelpiece.

The formal dining room has wood panelling to dado level benefits from a cast iron fireplace, a polished wooden floor, windows and doors to the garden room and a door to the inner hallway to the games room. The garden room, is light and bright room with patio access and Amtico flooring. The games room has a tiled floor and windows to the side plus a utility room off.

The stunning addition created by the present owners is the magnificent kitchen/family room. Stairs from the inner hallway lead to this fabulous family space, with sitting and dining areas and modern fitted kitchen with floor and wall units and central island with breakfast bar. A full wall of glazed sliding doors leads to the paved terrace.

Also off the games room is a rear lobby with a secondary staircase, WC, two further storage cupboards and back door.

The principal staircase from the reception hallway and the upper landing with beautiful leaded glass window.

Access from the main first floor landing are five bedrooms, family bathroom, laundry and two home offices. Two of the bedrooms share an interconnecting shower room. The principal bedroom has fitted wardrobes and a large en suite with free standing bath, and shower with steam facility and power shower with body jet. The family bathroom has a slipper bath with feature mosaic walls with inset lighting.

The connecting east wing has two further bedrooms, another shower room and a walk in store.

Outbuildings

Adjacent to the front of the house is a garage block with insulated double garage with two electric up and over doors, power and an inspection pit. Wood store.
