Handsome West Wales Georgian Country House. VIRTUAL VIEWING VIDEO AVAILABLE.

Description

VIRTUAL VIEWING VIDEO AVAILABLE

Plas Gilfachwen is a handsome Georgian country house thought to date early c.1800s and closely influenced by the famous architect John Nash famed for designing Buckingham Palace. In the book ‘The Buildings of Wales – Ceredigion & Carmarthenshire’ the property is described as “One of a group of early 19th century villas closely influenced by John Nash’s local works in the 1790s. Stucco hipped three-bay square house, built for the Rev. Thomas Lloyd, extended by a bay in 1980. The narrow tripartite ground-floor sashes in arched reveals with false fanlights are a motif from Nash’s Llanerchaeron.” The current owners have sympathetically renovated and refurbished the property over the years while retaining its charming original character features.

Accommodation Ground Floor
An impressive portico entrance with columns and fan light leads into the welcoming reception hall with exposed timber floors and original ceiling cornices and coving. On the left is the drawing room with original arched alcoves, views over the river valley and a period fireplace with marble surround providing a warm focal point. To the rear of this room is the dining room again with river valley views, period fireplace and French doors that lead out into the rear garden. On the right of the reception hall is a large sitting room with an attractive inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove. A useful storage/office room lies off. Adjacent to the sitting room is the kitchen breakfast room with fitted units and space for appliances. Off the kitchen is a utility room with door to outside. At the rear of the house is an impressive and light orangery again with French doors opening to the rear terrace.

First Floor
Stairs rise up from the reception hall to the first floor accommodation that includes 6/7 bedrooms (three having en suite shower/bath rooms) with all rooms enjoying views across the grounds and gardens or river valley. A further shower room completes the floor.

Second Floor
A second staircase continues to the second floor attic area that is currently used for storage but has potential for use as further accommodation space.

Externally

Stables Cottage
The old stables have been converted into a pretty and inviting one bedroom holiday cottage with kitchen, sitting room and wet room that is perfect for paying guests or for friends and family to use. The cottage also enjoys its own private garden area.

The property enjoys delightful landscaped grounds and gardens including an impressive pillared and gated entrance with a tree lined drive, circular gravelled forecourt, lawned areas, mature trees, bushes, shrubs, flower borders, vegetable and fruit garden, seating areas and pond. A useful garage workshop is located at the rear of the house.
