Uckfield, Crowborough and Heathfield are alternative smaller towns nearby, all reached within about 6 miles and Mayfield is a beautiful hilltop period village with shopping and good amenities, reached withinabout 3.5 miles.
The area is well served by state secondary community colleges at Crowborough, Uckfield and Heathfield and private schooling options in the area includes Skippers Hill preparatory school at Five Ashes, Mayfield for girls, Tonbridge for boys and co-ed options at Sevenoaks, Eastbourne, Brighton and Bedes in Upper Dicker.
Description
This imaginative semi-open plan conversion dates back to around 2010, adding to an existing very old, period barn believed to date back to circa 15th Century.
The property offers spacious flowing rooms, incorporating high vaulted ceilings on the ground floor and an abundance of exposed oak timbers, along with a good ratio of bedrooms to bathrooms as well as a good, practical, household working room, housing the pressurised water tank and providing a useful area for storage too.
The principal sitting room is an exceptional dramatic space, with about a six metre ridge height, amazing original beams and being double aspected through windows and doors on both sides. This has stone flooring and a large wood burning stove forming a focal point.
The kitchen has recently been upgraded and includes a modern electric five door Aga, with induction hob and there are a combination of concrete and marble worktops concrete and a filtered boiling water tap fitted, whilst the bathroom and shower rooms are all stylish, individually designed and generous in size.
The ground floor has a combination of timber and stone flooring and the lower ground floor is finished in oak.
Outside, the setting is delightful, with a substantial detached garage/outbuilding offering the potential for a variety of uses (subject to any required consents), including the fashionable home office, with a room above approached via external stairs to a generous entrance platform, ideal for seating and taking advantage of the distant view.
The lawned garden has a generous paved outside entertaining area and slopes down to a lower level, interspersed with tress, which then drops down to the area of ancient woodland towards the rear, incorporating a large pond.
The central heating operates either via an oil–fired boiler, outside to the front, or the log burner situated across the drive from the house, next to a very generous timber log store, with slate tiled roof. The heating is a combination of underfloor and radiators. There are also solar panels largely concealed on one roof pitch.
