An exceptional Arts & Crafts style house in an elevated setting with breathtaking far-reaching views across the Blackmore Vale and beyond, with a separate lodge available by negotiation.

Description

Thanes House was constructed in 1930 and is built in the Arts & Crafts style with rendered elevations under a tiled roof. It sits in an outstanding, elevated setting enjoying incredible south-westerly views over the surrounding countryside. The house offers well-balanced accommodation with the principal rooms all enjoying the spectacular outlook.

The reception rooms include a magnificent double drawing room and a sitting room opening from a central reception hall and a study off the kitchen. The kitchen/breakfast room is very well appointed and spacious with an adjoining sun terrace. There is a back hall, two cloakrooms and a strong room (currently used as a larder). The lower ground floor contains a wine cellar, large storage room and a laundry room.

On the first floor there are six bedrooms, including a beautifully proportioned principal with an en suite shower room. There are five further bedrooms and two family bathrooms. Boarded attic storage runs the length of the house with access from a pull-down ladder. Thanes House is beautifully presented throughout and has been re-roofed in recent years. The house retains many original features including fireplaces and leaded windows.

Gardens and Grounds
Thanes House is approached via a long tree-lined drive which leads to a parking and turning area to the front of the house. There is a large detached double garage with a store room above and the drive continues around to access a substantial wood store.

The gardens and grounds are delightful and extend to about 14.5 acres including about 4 acres of mature woodland. Adjacent to the house is a large south-west facing stone
terrace, perfectly designed to make the most of the views. The gardens are laid out in terraces and include areas of lawn as well as a wide variety of beds, borders, trees and shrubs.

Below the house is a formal garden with an ornamental fountain and other areas can be reached by a variety of gravel pathways. The pastureland extends to about 10 acres and has a water supply and a field shelter. The woodland runs along the western boundary and includes oak, ash and beech. Kingsettle Wood which extends to about 50 acres and is owned by the Woodland Trust borders the property to the North West side.

LOT 2 (Vacant and available by separate negotiation)
Thanes Lodge sits at the entrance to the property and is a well presented cottage with two reception rooms, a kitchen, conservatory and bathroom on the ground floor and three bedrooms on the first floor. It has its own kitchen garden, garage, garden store and parking area.
