Substantial block of young woodland currently under EWGS management extending to approximately 23.18 Hectares (57.28 Acres).
Maddie’s Wood is located adjacent the B1404 public highway which provides excellent roadside access to the property. The woodland is subject to two footpaths; one stretching across the whole of the property from west-east along the route of the old railway line whilst a second path leads north tracing the existing stone built track. This track is suitable for four wheel drive use.
The woodland stocking comprises a mixture of broadleaved trees. The most prevalent trees being oak and alder however small elements of birch, willow, sweet chestnut, cherry, hazel and hornbeam are all dotted about within the crop.
As this stocking grows, the mixed aged crop will provide a range of different height
trees creating protection, breaking up the rather open landscape while also
providing birds, mammals and invertebrates with a diverse natural habitat.
The woodland receives an annual grant payment under the Farmland Premium Scheme until 2028.
