Dating from the mid-18th century Gateshaw House is a handsome country house set with its own gardens and grounds which extend to approximately 2.68 acres. It is an attractive, Georgian, former farmhouse built of rendered
stone under a slate roof and has a sunny, southerly aspect. It is approached along a gravel drive that terminates at the front door and occupies a private and sheltered position. Gateshaw House has enormous character, is full of charm and retains many of its original interior features that include an elegant staircase, large doorways, wooden floors, working fireplaces, cornicing, together with sash and case windows.
The house has generous proportions throughout, and in recent years a thorough programme of modernisation and refurbishment has turned it into a spectacular family house with light and bright interiors, flexible family accommodation and plenty of room.
Of particular note are the main reception rooms, not least the hall and drawing room, the open-plan kitchen/breakfast/family room, the generous
bedroom accommodation which is well-served by modern bathrooms and the views of the garden and surrounding countryside which many of the rooms offer. There is a disused lift from the basement to the first floor. When
not occupied by the sellers, Gateshaw House has been let successfully as self-catering holiday accommodation.

Courtyard Cottage and outbuildings
Situated in the courtyard at the back of Gateshaw House, Courtyard Cottage provides useful secondary/staff accommodation. It has one bedroom with ensuite wc and shower room, kitchen/breakfast and sitting room. Next
door is the workshop. Across the courtyard are the two storey, former stables (with tack room) and garages. Subject to obtaining to obtaining the necessary consents there is scope to convert these buildings to alternative uses.

Garden and grounds
The extensive grounds are mostly down to lawn, subdivided into various walled gardens and sheltered by mature trees and shrubs. Courtyard Cottage has its own small walled garden. The house has beautiful views across its own grounds and the variety of mature trees and shrubs
throughout the garden offer a constantly changing scene throughout the year.

The Scottish Borders offer some of the finest fishing in Britain on the Rivers Tweed and Teviot, with a wide variety of other sporting activities including game shooting, cycling, riding and golf. Located approximately 9 miles to the northwest of Gateshaw House is the championship Roxburghe course.
