SELLER'S INSIGHT
Having lived in East Hertfordshire for a number of years, we made the decision to sell our home and move to a new area. We were searching for a large home, to accommodate three generations of our family, when we stumbled across Oak House.
We had no particular plans to move to Essex, but we immediately fell in love with the house and the town of Halstead. On the day we visited, the Halstead Summer Fair was in full flow and walking down the traditional high street with its butcher and bakery, it felt like going back in time, it was just the kind of community we were looking for.
We were attracted to the house because we could see the layout, with its large ensuite bedrooms and generous living space, had the makings of an ideal family home. The house was in need of updating though, so we've refurbished it throughout and turned it into a modern home with contemporary lighting, new carpets and flooring throughout, new bathrooms and a beautiful fully equipped kitchen with pantry and utility room. The living areas are spacious which is a must with a large family and it means everyone can have their own space when they need to, which was imperative during lockdown!
The Pool House and Entertainment Room have been completely redecorated and modernised with a kitchen area and a mobile bar. An outdoor jacuzzi has been installed on the terrace under a gazebo with fantastic views across our Mediterranean garden. Both areas form the basis of our outdoor entertainment and is the perfect setting for our social gatherings, of which there have been many!
I think I'm most proud of our wonderful secluded Mediterranean garden. We've spent a lot of time improving the grounds and planting a variety of trees and shrubs, and we've created a fabulous wildlife area around our pond which is now home to ducks, Kingfishers and a host of wildlife. The orchard provides fruit and we grow our own vegetables. What I will miss most when we leave is being able to sit outside in the evening, surrounded by this beautiful garden, listening to the owls in the trees and stargazing. It truly is a magical place.
We've sadly decided to leave, mainly due to our grown-up children leaving home to start their own families. However, we love the vibrant community of Halstead with all it has to offer, so we plan to stay in the area to be close to the children.
Oak House would make a fabulous home for a young growing family or for generational living like our own. It has great schools on the doorstep, with a busy town close by, but in a quiet secluded location. It will be hard to find a replacement.
