Newlandburn House was built by James Dewar in 1752, with the drawing room added in 1900. The B-listed property has a classical Georgian appearance and ranks as one of the most charming houses in the area surrounding Edinburgh. Newlandburn is further enhanced by the wonderful private grounds which surround the property, designed by Gertrude Jekyll. The property is approached via a private tree-lined driveway with a circular gravel turning circle and parking area to the front. Newlandburn has retained many period features including beautifully proportioned reception rooms, intricate cornicing and wood burning stoves. The drawing room was a later addition but again is an elegant room with large bay window overlooking the garden and French doors leading out to the patio. The upstairs bedrooms are all well proportioned with attractive cornicing and include three front bedrooms overlooking the gardens. The house also has the advantage of having a self-contained 2-bedroom two storey wing with its own entrance which requires refurbishment.

The full accommodation is laid out as follows:

Ground floor: conservatory, entrance hall, drawing room (with wood burner), sitting room (with wood burner), downstairs bedroom, W.C, family bathroom, dining kitchen (with aga), studio/study (with wood burner), utility room, larder and W.C.

Sitting room, kitchen, store room (annexe)

First Floor: landing, shower room, five double bedrooms, family bathroom and shower room.

Two bedrooms and bathroom (annexe)

Second floor: Attic bedroom/ games room

Outwith the formal gardens there is a former bowling green and a large orchard surrounded by mature trees. There is also an attractive burn with footbridge and a block of mixture mature woodland extending to 1.93 acres providing a lovely walk and haven for wildlife. There is also a tennis court. To the east of the driveway there is a pony paddock extending to about 3.26 acres.
