Built originally in 1600 and subsequently altered during the later Georgian and Victorian eras, Blackford House is a charming, unspoilt and unlisted stone farmhouse. It has undergone selective refurbishment whilst retaining many of its original architectural features including a flagstone floor and original staircase in the hall, beams, picture rails and working shutters. However it would now benefit from some cosmetic updating. The house is a classic farmhouse of the period with an attractive symmetrical front with two well-proportioned principal reception rooms astride a central reception hall and the original 17th century part at the rear housing the kitchen, larder, laundry room, cloakroom and with a door from the hall opening to the terrace and walled garden at the rear of the house. The front of the house is south facing with broad, stone-mullioned windows giving a light and airy feeling to the reception rooms. The drawing room and dining room both have working fireplaces, tall ceilings and exposed beams and a more recent extension at one end of the house comprises a sitting room with French windows through to the adjoining conservatory.
On the first floor are four bedrooms, three of them south facing. In addition, there are two bathrooms and a separate WC. In the attics are two rooms that are currently used for storage but could be put to alternative use. Adjacent to the main house is a tarmac parking area with space for several cars. On one side of the parking area and not overlooking the main house is a period stone barn, which has been converted to create a self-contained annexe. On the ground floor are the entrance hall, sitting room with an inglenook fireplace and mezzanine study area, dining room, kitchen and cloakroom. On the first floor are the master bedroom, two single bedrooms and the family bathroom. There is also a double garage and adjacent workshop.
The formal walled garden consists of level lawn fringed with well-stocked borders, two paved terraces, the summerhouse, tool store and log store. At the rear is a further period barn and a paddock incorporating a spring-fed pond. Adjacent to the parking area is a good-sized kitchen garden containing a greenhouse, vegetable and asparagus beds, soft fruit cage and poultry enclosure. Across the lane from the house is a paddock incorporating a traditional cider and eating apple orchard, hard tennis court and an area of broadleaf woodland. In all about 3.22 acres (1.30 hectares).
