Beautifully refurbished country house.

Description

Woodlands is an impressive Edwardian country house believed to date from 1913. In recent years the house has been upgraded to a very high standard so that it is now an exceptionally comfortable family home, which is in turnkey condition.

The house is characterised by its large bay windows and a turret on the south western corner of its imposing façade. Although it now has a fabulous contemporary interior, many of its original features have been beautifully preserved. The entrance porch and vestibule have lovely old flagstones and decorative floor tiles and the original double oak doors open to the reception hall where there is a carved oak staircase. A multi-fuel stove with ornate surround provides an impressive focal point, as do the original stained glass windows overlooking the stair. The drawing room has a south facing bay window, an open fireplace and a beautiful reclaimed oak panelled wall as well as contrasting parquet flooring. The dining room has a gas fire and a bow window in the turret providing a lovely view over the garden. There is also an office, a cosy television room and a study. The cloakroom has a mosaic tiled floor and a separate WC.

The dining kitchen has painted timber cabinets, timber worktops and a double Belfast sink as well as a four oven AGA and space for a dining table. Double doors from the kitchen open to a series of spacious practical rooms: firstly a cloakroom with a door to the garden and also to a WC, then a useful lobby and boiler room and finally a large and bright utility/laundry room complete with fitted cabinets, a television and a door to the parking area.

On the first floor a galleried landing gives access to four double bedrooms, one of which has a bow window with a terrific elevated outlook. The main bedroom has an en suite shower room and a dressing room. On this floor there is also a family bathroom. On the second floor there are three further bedrooms and a WC.

Outside

A shared sweeping driveway lined with clipped beech hedges, rhododendrons and mature trees, leads to a short private driveway and a gravel parking area beside the house.

The garden at Woodlands is characterised by its neat hedges which look smart and provide privacy. The summer house is positioned to catch the evening sun and is ideal for entertaining in summer time. There is a south facing terrace at the front of the house and flat areas of lawn to the rear. Woodlands will be sold with a right of access over a back drive which loops around the east side of the property and connects to the shared front drive.
