Appealing Restoration: Thought to have been originally constructed in the 1600s and extended in the 1800s, Turnstone House, formerly called Woodville, was in the same family ownership for many generations before being acquired by a renowned Bletchley Park code-breaker in the 1960s from whose family our clients subsequently purchased the property. In recent years, Turnstone House has been the subject of a comprehensive programme of extension and renovation and now represents an excellent example of a charming Cotswold residence exuding character, appeal and history that offers a perfect combination of privacy and seclusion whilst still being within easy reach of all the facilities of the nearby towns. Painswick Churchyard is famous for its impressive array of table tombs and its 99 yew trees about which folklore holds that if a 100th should grow the devil will pull it out. There are several local shops, galleries, tearooms and restaurants in the village along with a pharmacy, doctor and dentist surgeries and two public houses whilst the surrounding towns provide a comprehensive range of social, recreational and retail amenities to suit all tastes and budgets.

The Village offers a playgroup and primary school with secondary schools in the surrounding towns including Marling School (boys), Stroud High School (girls) and Pate’s (mixed) grammar schools with independent schools including Beaudesert Park School and Wycliffe College in Stroud, Dean Close, Cheltenham College and Cheltenham Ladies College in Cheltenham and Kings School in Gloucester.
