DESCRIPTION

Quarrelwood has an extensive historical background. There was a hamlet here in the 17th Century with a population of around 200-300, a smithy, a joiners shop and a “small house of entertainment”. The place became a sacred spot for Covenanters and after many years of open air worshipping, this well-hidden site was chosen for their church in 1798. Quarrelwood was then used as a place of worship until around 1825. During World War 2 a hand laundry was run beside the ruined walls of the chapel. In 1969 the manse and chapel were rebuilt as a family home.

The present owners acquired the property in 2009 and have continued to make significant improvements whilst retaining and highlighting original features. These include the panelled front door with ogee-glazed fan light in an arched moulded central doorway, a mixture of Venetian windows in outer bays and sashes with 12-plane glazing to the first floor. The former chapel is now a magnificent drawing room featuring a bespoke floor to ceiling bookcase, a multi fuel stove, three tall round-headed windows and solid oak flooring. The original manse now offers a dining room, sitting room with multi fuel stove, stone stair case to the first floor where you will find three double bedrooms, master bed room with en-suite shower and bath, and a family bathroom.

In 2014 Quarrelwood was extended to create a light and spacious open plan kitchen and dining area, and a large utility room. The kitchen and dining area contains an electric Aga, bespoke central kitchen island, with Belfast style double sink and dishwasher, all designed and finished to high standard. The utility room has a further Belfast style single sink, worktops and boiler. Just off the kitchen there is a walk in pantry offering more kitchen units and work surfaces. The garden can be accessed directly from the kitchen via French doors and also from the master bedroom via French doors that open onto a drawbridge.

Overall Quarrelwood is maintained to excellent order throughout and offers a welcoming home with ample room for entertaining family and friends with splendid gardens, ground and far reaching views.
