SITUATION
Milton Mill sits in the peaceful hamlet of Milton, approximately 1.5 miles west of the village of Dunscore. Dunscore is a thriving community and has a primary school, doctor’s surgery, a community hall, Post Office service (part time in the community hall), a community run pub and church. A broader range of shops, schools and services are available in Thornhill, where there are a number of individual local businesses, or the regional capital of Dumfries, including a leisure complex, range of pubs/restaurants, hotels, a large regional hospital with a broad range of out-patient clinics and the Crichton Campus, home to the local campuses of both Glasgow University and the University of the West of Scotland.

The area is renowned for its diverse range of outdoor pursuits and activities. There is excellent fishing available on the region’s numerous rivers and lochs, as well as good sea fishing off the coast. Shooting is available on various estates. Equestrian pursuits are well catered for with many stables offering both livery and schooling, as well as a number of Pony Clubs holding gymkhanas and events throughout the year. For golfers, there are several excellent courses available nearby, including the championship course at Southerness. Mountain bike enthusiasts are well catered for by the region’s Seven Stanes forests, the nearest of which is Ae Forest. Hill walking and hiking is available all over the area on numerous paths and hills. Birdwatchers can be entertained endlessly at the nature reserves at Mersehead and Caerlaverock run by the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, where, amongst other species, Ospreys can be seen.

Communications to the area are good. The M74 is around 45 minutes’ drive away, giving easy access to the central belt of Scotland to the north, and the M6 leading to the south. There are both domestic and international flights available from Prestwick, Glasgow and Edinburgh airports, all reachable in under two hours.

DESCRIPTION
Brief History
It is believed the building dates from around the 1870’s and as the name suggests Milton Mill was formerly a small holding and meal Mill driven by water wheel. Records suggest it ran as a Mill until the early 1900s. From then it was adapted and run as a creamery, collecting Milk from nearby farmers. The current office, which is a raised room from the Kitchen/Dining was the loading platform for the creamery. In more recent years, prior to the current vendors ownership, the buildings were used as storage space for neighbouring Stroguhan and in poor state of repair. The current owners converted 25 years ago.

Converted into a characterful and unique dwelling in a peaceful setting within its own grounds extending to about 4.5 acres. The property has been converted in the last 25 years by the current owners and has provided for them, a beautiful family home for that time. The property presents a fine balance of entertaining/reception space together with 5 bedrooms over the 2 floors and has been tastefully decorated and finished throughout. The large Kitchen/dining/living with the bespoke wooden kitchen units and Oil fired Aga provides the central hub of the home and a great social/entertaining space with French doors opening to the extensive patio, ideal for al fresco entertaining. The property benefits from double glazing throughout, oil central heating and a ‘Jotul’ wood burning stove in the living room, the stove has a back burner providing hot water. The master bedroom to the first floor, with the recent addition of the Dormer window provides an extensive space with fitted wardrobes with views over the garden, burn and woodland to the rear. Milton Mill provides a stunning family home in a highly desirable rural location within Dumfries and Galloway.
