Taf Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest - The Taf Estuary is of special interest for its saltmarsh vegetation, which is associated with extensive areas of intertidal mud, sand and the river channel. The area is of international importance for its marine and intertidal habitats, which in turn support important populations of wintering wildfowl and various species of fish.

Carmarthen Bay and Estuaries Special Area of Conservation - There are extensive areas of intertidal mudflats and sandflats with large areas of these flats dominated by bivalves with the river system provides a migratory route for salmonids, lampreys and shad.

Llandilo Abercowin is situated at the confluence of the rivers Cywyn and Taff in an exceptional position overlooking the estuary. The small town of St Clears is 5 miles to the north west with the county town of Carmarthen approximately 11 miles to the north east, and lays claim to being one of, if not the oldest town, in Wales. Carmarthen is a large market town with most services and amenities and the city of Swansea to the south east accessed by the A48 and provides all major services and amenities.

The owners advise guests visiting Pilgrim Rest 'that a must visit is Laugharne, the hometown of famous poet Dylan Thomas, where you can visit his writing shed, home and his favourite public house the Browns Hotel. Further along this beautiful coastline are Pendine Sands, Amroth, Saundersfoot and Tenby all within a 25-minute drive and perfect for family days out, building sandcastles or sunbathing.
