Longhills Hall was built in a Palladian style dating to the mid-1700s with alterations in 1836 made by George Basevi, a pupil of Sir John Soane; however, the cellars indicate it occupies the site of a former residence from Elizabethan times. For over 200 years the Curtois family owned the house, followed by the Abel Smiths, renowned bankers whose name still sits above the NatWest bank in Lincoln. During World War II the 1st Airborne Division, who took part in the invasion at Arnhem, was billeted to Branston, many of the soldiers occupying the Hall, now with two commemorative plaques near the entrance.

Longhills Hall is just a mile outside the thriving village of Branston which is particularly well served with excellent schools, a medical centre, a Co-op supermarket, a post office, the Waggon & Horses pub serving food, an electrical shop, some gift shops, takeaways, a busy village hall, a recreation ground, a tennis club and fitness centre with swimming pool. The Church of All Saints dates to the C11th and is open for worship.

10 minutes by car from Longhills Hall takes you into the centre of the vibrant city of Lincoln with its rich and interesting history, developed from an Iron Age Settlement on the River Witham. The two most notable attractions are the spectacular C11th Cathedral and the Castle at the heart of the city's cultural Cathedral Quarter.

Lincoln has two universities, the University of Lincoln and Bishop Grosseteste, and the city is full of a diverse range of shopping and retail options from high street stores to unique independents and boutiques, including the popular Bailgate shopping area – quirky streets full of specialist shops such as antique shops, crafts, book and gift shops, tea rooms and restaurants. These quaint shops are surrounded by the remains of medieval Lincoln, black timber-framed buildings and even some hidden Romans remains. Enjoy regular artists’ and farmers’ markets in the Castle Square as well as the annual Christmas Market or visit the museums or galleries nearby.

For access further afield and direct commuting to London, there are daily trains from Lincoln to London Kings Cross (travel time approximately 2 hours). The A15 northwards provides easy access to the M180 motorway network and Humberside Airport, whilst it is also within good reach of the A1 at Markham Moor along the A57 westwards, and the A1 at Newark via the A46. Newark has direct train services to London taking approx. 75 minutes.

The Lincoln Minster (Prep and Senior) are highly regarded independent schools in the centre of Lincoln, only about a 10 minute drive from the property. The village of Branston has excellent infant and junior schools, rated Outstanding and Good by Ofsted respectively, as well as an Outstanding state secondary school Branston Community Academy.
