Superb Grade II listed Regency House in 10.6 acres.

Description

The White House is Grade II listed and is understood to have been built as the rectory for the surrounding parish. It is believed to date from 1831 and probably replaces an older house whose moat was formed by the ponds and ditches still present on the site. The house is built of rendered brick under a grey slate hipped roof. It has a pedimented porch and sash windows in keeping with the period.

Approached through electric wrought iron gates opening onto a gravel drive, The White House is set back from the lane within a mature parkland setting. The drive sweeps around the front of the house to a parking and turning area beyond.

The accommodation is arranged over two floors with well proportioned reception rooms, high ceilings, deep bay and sash windows. Throughout the property there are numerous 19th century architectural features including handsome fireplaces, decorative cornicing and working shutters. Of particular note are the drawing room and dining room which have southerly views over the gardens and French windows to the terrace.

The kitchen/breakfast room is a superb family space with a Clive Christian kitchen and an Aga. There is an adjoining utility room, pantry and garden room with access through to the indoor swimming pool.  There is access beyond to a spacious entertaining room which enjoys far-reaching views to the rear and has its own entrance from the front courtyard.  Steps from this room lead down to a subterranean gym, wired for sound and TV.

Upstairs there is a recently redecorated principal suite and five further comfortable bedroom suites. The landing includes a spacious library area and there is a substantial guest suite with direct access, via a secondary staircase to the kitchen. The suite has a shower room and kitchen.

Gardens, Grounds, Cottage and Outbuildings

To the front of the house the grounds have a parkland feel and are well screened from the lane by a bank of mature trees. They contain an attractive natural pond and a number of interesting specimen trees including a magnificent Lebanon cedar.

At the rear of the house, there is a south facing York stone terrace with mature herbaceous borders adjoining the main gardens and beyond is a field extending to about 5.2 acres. There are lovely southerly views over the rolling farmland beyond.

To the west of the house, the former coach house and stable block now contain a five-bay garage and various stores. Immediately adjacent to the house is a cottage and gardener's WC.

To the far western boundary is a courtyard containing stables and machinery barn.
